What is a Parent Coach?

A parent coach will give you personalised guidance and expert strategies that improve family dynamics, enhance communication, and address behavioural, emotional, or developmental concerns in your children.

What Does a Parent Coach Do?

1. Offers tailored support

Every family is unique, so a parent coach provides customised advice suited to a child’s needs, temperament, and family values.

2. Teaches Parenting Strategies

A parent coach helps you move away from punishing or permissive discipline towards more effective, connection-based strategies.

3. Guides Through Behavioural Challenges

Assists in managing common issues like tantrums, anxiety, defiance, sibling rivalry, and bedtime struggles.

4. Builds Confidence in Parenting

Empowers parents with tools to feel more in control and less stressed about their child’s behaviour.

5. Strengthens Parent-Child Relationships

Focuses on fostering emotional security, mutual respect, and deeper connections between parents and children.

6. Provides a Non-Judgemental Space

Parents can openly discuss struggles and receive professional guidance without fear of judgement.

Who Can Benefit from a Parent Coach?

  • Parents of challenging, anxious or neurodivergent children (e.g., ADHD, autism).
  • New parents adjusting to parenthood.
  • Parents going through transitions like divorce, co-parenting, or blending families.
  • Parents looking to raise emotionally intelligent, confident, and well-adjusted children.

How Is Parent Coaching Different from Therapy?

Therapy often deals with deeper emotional or psychological issues, past trauma, or mental health conditions in parents or children however, parent coaching is very much focused on helping parents solve challenging behaviour that they see in their children that needs urgent attention. For example, if your child struggles to manage their anger, you may encourage them to see a therapist. However, through parent coaching, you can learn how to tame your child’s anger to see a long-lasting change within the home.

If as a parent, you are looking to manage your own anger, you may choose to speak to a therapist about this. However, through parent coaching, you can learn techniques which can help you stay calm in the face of your child’s challenging, button pushing behaviours.

Although therapy and coaching are different, they are both valuable.

A family enjoys an outdoor walk on a gravel path. Two children in red jackets play—one on a small tricycle, and the other stands nearby. A woman laughs while petting a playful black dog, and a man watches with a smile. It's a cloudy day.
